It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. (1 Peter 1:12)
We are told in the scriptures that the workings out of the Gospel in our world is that which angels long to look. Our world is the world of images. Man, the culmination of this world is made in God’s image—a major insight into the reality that the earth is a place of images. The physical world is and image world that displays truths of the heavenly world, and at the highest level truths about God, the creator of all things. In this world God displays his fantastic mercy by saving rebellious men. This wonderful play in the realm of images is something the angels long to see.
As a picture of this entertainment too is when we look into a world of images. For example with television we who are higher creatures, look at moving pictures, images. In our watching we reflect what angels do. It is no mystery that men like to sit back and watch entertainment. It is part of our design, which reflects the angelic world. The ultimate point of such images is to reveal what God is like. That is what all entertainment, that is art, must do. We as those who watch look in, and in the delight of looking, and the fascination there, we also meet what our God is like, seeing Him more deeply through the work.
